HOUSE ON THE HILL SERIES

These were done in the last 8 years, after retirement. Being home more, I became more aware of what ‘home’ means for people…a place of refuge, a place of loneliness, danger or entrapment. Home or lack it, can be many things and I wanted to explore that in my artwork. The physicality of getting back to painting felt great. Computer work which I love as well, feels more cerebral while working with paint feels more immediate and emotional.

These paintings are 48”x48”, my favourite shape for working - the square. I appreciate the stability of the shape and it’s ability to contain another ‘perfect’ shape the circle. Also coming from the digital world, it’s pixel shape has probably been imprinted on my brain and so most of my work in in this shape. These particular paintings were made between 2015-2020. Some use oil paints and some use acrylic.
